Barbara Klein
Danced 1966-1968

Barbara Klein began dancing at Radio City in 1966, a turbulent time for both Radio City Music Hall and the country itself.

Caught up in labor strikes, the Vietnam War and the gradual deline of the Music Hall, the dancers of the late 1960s were less willing to commit their lives totally to Radio City than their prededcessors had been. More invested in their individuality and a life outside of the Music Hall, these ambitious young dancers were less willing to remain in the corps for their entire career. They used their time in the corps to hone their skills, not only in dance, but also choreography. They then took these skills to other dance companies or their own dance studios and schools.

Barbara left the United States for Canada in 1969, where she became active in musical theatre. The connection to New York was strong though, and she returned to the Bronx to open a school of her own where she has been working hard training the next generation of dancers with the same discipline and professionalism that she learned at Radio City.
